The Media Centre consists of 2 main 'logic' sections as regards
the mental authorship of these audio-,
or videographed reflections:
Media Centre Section 1: Contains all video films by Brigitte Schulze which she created as part of her research-, documentation- and reflection-processes between August 2001 and December 2003. They are audio-, and audio-visualised documents of her 'research dynamics': how she positioned herself during the various phases of her research, which viewpoints she took, with whom she inter-acted etc. in her different research and daily life environments in Kerala.
These video-/ audiographed materials are accessible on this
website as texts (see below).
The video film cassettes are kept in our Video Film Archive at the Media Studies
Department, Trier University.
They can be accessed for research purposes, and after consultation with B.
Schulze under kerala@uni-trier.de.
These video films or audios are copies from the original Mini
Digital Video tapes to tapes of DV Cam format which serve as archive and as
source for producing copies in Pal Video format for study or teaching purposes.
The DV Cam Archive tapes can contain 'mixed' original materials since it was
not always possible to create one thematically or chronologically consistent
archive tape.
However, the archive tapes are shelf marked as: DV_[here comes the respective Roman Number], and can be searched etc. in our digital archive, too.
Here we document them in a transcribed and standardised protocol form worked out by Ina Schulte-Steinberg, Heike Anna Hierlwimmer and Brigitte Schulze.
Each DV_** tape protocol gives content of visuals, keywords
on persons met and on their statements combined with a time coding.
The protocol form also provides in the last column Schulze's 'inter-facing':
her comment on connections she sees on the base of her knowledge and experiences
of this respective situation or statement with other situations or statements
of other persons she came across during her research.
Inter-Views which are part of the DV-documentation can be clicked here, or can be found in their theme-context under "Kerala Womens' Cinema & Self Praxis" as complete transcription.
Media Centre Section 2: contains all video films which are expressions
of the Self-, Self-Other, Self-world reflections of the marginalised women's
who cooperated with Schulze.
The most continuous cooperation was that between a group of dalit ('untouchable')
women who existed as a registered self help group since the beginning of the
1990s, and another group of women from mixed religious and caste milieus.
The names of these women have been deleted and coded. In Kerala caste and
class, or religious affiliation is most important, and therefore our codes
contain a 'D' for dalit, and an 'M' for the mixed, non-dalit women. Coding
of their names is important to maintain the women's privacy.
